Megamind

Megamind

Megamind was written by Tom McGrath and stars Will Ferral as Megamind, Brad Pitt as Metro Man, Tina Fey as Roxanne Ritchi, and Jonah Hill as Titan. The story begins far out in space when Megamind is just a baby and parents send him into space in a rocket pod as they become engulfed into a black hole of doom. The pod heads for earth alongside another baby filled pod from a nearby planet. The two land merely blocks apart in Metro City, Megamind in a prison yard, and Metro Man in a fancy mansion. From that point on they were arch nemesis until the day Megamind destroyed Metro Man. Bored with no one to fight Megamind creates a new here, Titan, but things don’t quite go according to plan. Megamind is forced to save the day for the first time in his life.
I have never been one to really enjoy animated movies because the majority of them are generally geared towards children. Megamind however was hilarious in almost every way and I believe it can be enjoyed by people in all age groups. The characters are great, Will Ferral has a way of being funny even when you can’t really see him. Megamind is the villain but you are rooting for him the entire time. He’s the underdog, the one who had all the tough breaks, and that’s the one who’s easier to relate to even when he’s an alien from millions of miles away. My favorite character of the whole movie would have to be Minion. I have never seen David Cross do animation before but I wouldn’t know it from Megamind. His role as the loyal, loving, right hand man of Megamind was unlike anything I have ever seen.  He is a fish with a happy face in a little clear tank on top of a big robot body, how can you not love that?  Jonah hill gets to express a dark side we haven’t seen from him before when he accidentally gets injected with Metro Man’s DNA and becomes the villain.  Hopefully we can see him play the bad guy in a live action film soon. Overall I give this movie four stars, it was good but there were a couple of things that I found disappointing. For instance, in the beginning of the movie it seemed like the character’s lips didn’t quite move the way they should to accommodate the voice they were portraying. Maybe it had something to do with the theater equipment but it didn’t seem that way. Secondly I found the soundtrack for Megamind was good except for the fact that they played two major AC/DC songs for different action scenes. They also included a little Guns N’ Roses and Michael Jackson but one song a piece.  Maybe I’m over reacting but it just felt weird having two from AC/DC.
I would recommend this movie to anyone I know. It was funny, smart, and not too long to sit through.
